Who got the 2020 Nobel Prize in the field of chemistry?

Hello Everyone, Welcome to My Blog!

The main motive of this "Blog" is to share interesting knowledge about amazing discoveries of science which has brought a miraculous change in the life of people.

This Post is About "Two women scientists who received the Nobel Prize in the field of chemistry in 2020".Both women scientists have developed the important tool 'Crisper-Cas9'.

Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize for 2020 in the field of chemistry has been announced. And this year the Nobel Prize in 'Chemistry' is given to French scientist 'Emmanuelle Charpentier' and American scientist 'Jennifer A. Doudna' for developing a method of 'genome editing'.
Both women scientists have developed the important tool 'Crisper-Cas 9'.

Researchers can add, remove, or even alter specific DNA sequences by using components of the CRISPR system. This technology has announce new eventualities in cancer therapies, curing genetic diseases and also in plant inbreeding.

How did the Scientists develop the scissors?

Emmanuelle Charpentier, noticed a previously unknown molecule, called tracrRNA while studying about a bacteria called Streptococcus pyogenes. Further studies manifest that this tracrRNA was excerpt of the bacteria’s immune system and it helps the bacteria liquidate viral DNA. She revealed this discovery in 2011.

In the same year, along with Jennifer Doudna, she got success in remaking the bacteria’s scissors and reprogramming it. Charpentier and Doudna then demonstrated that they can now utilize these scissors to cut any DNA molecule at an expected (required) site.

These sequences are a portion of the bacteria’s immune system. Bacteria that have remained a virus infection attach a piece of the genetic code of the virus into its genome as a memory of the infection. In summation to these CRISPR sequences, researchers discovered an exclusive genes called CRISPR-associated, succinct as 'Cas'.
And thus they received the 2020 Nobel Prize in the field of chemistry
